... and nowadays comes under the competence of the Ministry for the Environment and Conservation of Nature, Agriculture and Consumer Protection in the state of North Rhine Westphalia. The mission of the state stud has, however, remained fundamentally the same since its foundation. It consists of making high-quality and genetically interesting stallions available to horse breeders for a reasonable covering sum. The prime aim here is breeding progress. The provincial stud has 22 covering locations and/or insemination stations in Westphalia and in the Rhineland. All are under the management of trained and qualified personnel. The stud has an average stallion stock of 80 warm-blood stallions, two Thoroughbred and 17 cold-blood stallions. In cold-blood breeding particular emphasis is placed on maintaining valuable genes.
