Formerly, as in almost all state studs, the main priority was the production of horses for military purposes. Later on, concentration was directed towards working horses for agriculture. From 1990 onwards, the breeding of sport horses became a main priority in Moritzburg and efforts were made to improve the quality of the indigenous horses by using first-class stallions of various breeds. The stock of the stud includes over 100 stallions from pony to cold-blood breeds.
