BÀBOLNA IS TO BE PRIVATISED AND THE STUD DISSOLVED!
One of the oldest and most attractive state studs in Europe, as well as the breeding for which it is responsible, is threatened with being broken up and destroyed. The unique and not particularly common Shagya-Arab breed originates from the State Stud of Babolna. Over the last 20 years enormous efforts have been invested in maintaining the blood lines and regaining the horses' international reputation. Now, as a result of political wheelings and dealings and various private and corrupt interests, the Stud Director Tamás Rombauer has been dismissed in order to make the way free for privatisation of the stud. ... 

The European State Studs would like to unite to make a joint contribution to reinforcing the European identity and the significance of the horse as a European cultural asset. Within this context they have set up the ESSA (European State Stud Assembly) as a joint representation of interests, which is intended not only to reinforce the public image but also to improve exchanges on breeding-related and other specialised matters between the studs.
